In times where data is being collected at an unprecedented rate, privacy is a major concern. Differential privacy is a notion of privacy that has been widely studied in the last decade and is the state of the art data privacy technique. It provides a formal guarantee that the presence or absence of any individual in a dataset does not significantly affect the outcome of a query. However, differential privacy has only been studied in contexts where private computations always terminate. This evidences an unexplored gap between the theoretical guarantees and its practical implementations. In this work we design a programming language for differential privacy, with support for gradual typing. Consequently, we are able to explore the impact of impure behavior, such as errors and divergence, in differential privacy. We have already designed a language with support for gradual sensitivity typing, and we are currently working on extending it to support differential privacy. Furthermore, we have already explored the impact of errors and divergence in the metatheory of sensitivity analysis, and we are currently working on exploring the impact of impure behavior in the privacy analysis.
